Regal RC-51 Tricone Resonator Guitar $594.3 The Regal RC-51 Tricone Resonator Guitar has the richness and warmth of tone that’s dazzled audiences for 75 years. The body is bell-brass, heavily nickel-plated to a mirror finish, and fitted with a traditional sand-cast T-style spider for great sound. The fast mahogany neck has a rosewood fretboard, adjustable truss rod, 1-3/4″-wide bone nut, high-quality sealed-gear Schaller tuners, and a striking art deco pearloid peghead overlay. The hardware is nickel-plated brass. In the 1920s the guitar was coming out of the parlor and into the concert hall. The technology of the early 1900s, driven by the phonograph and radio, was causing a musical revolution. Amplification was required, and the Dopyera brothers of southern California answered the call. Using 3 spun aluminum speaker cones, a mechanical amplification system was created that allowed the guitar to be heard in the back row of the auditorium. From the jazz bands of the ’20s, through the Hawaiian craze of the ’30s, from Chicago down to the Delta, the sound of the Tricone defined an era. Its warm, rich tone was the signature sound of blues legends such as Tampa Red, Bukka White, Peetie Wheatstraw, and Kansas Joe McCoy. |

Bluegrass Music $85.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music, and is a sub-genre of country music. It has roots in Irish, West African, Scottish, Welsh and English traditional music. Bluegrass was inspired by the music of immigrants from the United Kingdom and Ireland (particularly the Scots-Irish immigrants in Appalachia), and African-Americans, particularly through genres such as jazz and blues. In bluegrass, as in some forms of jazz, one or more instruments each takes its turn playing the melody and improvising around it, while the others perform accompaniment; this is especially typified in songs called breakdowns. This is in contrast to old-time music, in which all instruments play the melody together or one instrument carries the lead throughout while the others provide accompaniment. Traditional bluegrass is typically based around a small set of acoustic stringed instruments including mandolin, acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle, resonator guitar and upright bass, with or without vocals. Bluegrass music has attracted a diverse and extremely loyal following world-wide. Many enthusiasts often describe their introduction to the genre as akin to having “caught the bug.” |

Dobro $37 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Dobro is a trade name now owned by Gibson Guitar Corporation and used for a particular design of resonator guitar. The name has a long and involved history, interwoven with that of the resonator guitar. Originally coined by the Dopyera brothers when they formed the Dobro Manufacturing Company, in time it came, in common language, to mean any resonator guitar, or specifically one with a single inverted resonator. This particular design was introduced by the Dopyeras’ new company, in competition to the already patented tricone and biscuit designs owned and produced by the National String Instrument Corporation. The Dobro brand later also appeared on other instruments, notably electric lap-steel guitars and solid-body electric guitars and on other resonator instruments such as Safari resonator mandolins. When Gibson acquired the name in 1994, the company announced that it would defend its right to the Dobro’s exclusive use. |

Chapters: Grand National, Sunrise Over Sea, What You Want, Three, One Small Step, Live at St. Gallen, April Uprising, Somethings Gotta Give, John Butler, Jbt Ep, Searching for Heritage, Living 2001-2002. Excerpt: Grand National is the fourth album by The John Butler Trio. Somewhere between 22 to 25 songs were considered for this album, some created during or before Sunrise Over Sea. To date, it is the John Butler Trio’s most ambitious work, containing many more instruments than previously seen on their albums, including a whole strings and horn section on some songs, with numerous percussion instruments for many more. Butler, having previously tried to self-produce the album, called upon Mario Caldato Jr. (Beastie Boys, Tone Loc) to assist. The album reached number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and the Billboard Heatseekers chart in the US, and as of March 10, 2008 it has reached triple Platinum Status (210,000+ copies sold). Grand National was the 7th highest selling album in Australia in 2007, remaining in the ARIA top 20 album charts for over nine months. The title of the album is derived from the antique dobro resphonic guitar that Butler inherited from his grandfather. In the 1920s the Dobro and National were competitors in the development of resonator or resophonic guitars, in 1934 they merged to form the National-Dobro Corporation, and hence the name of the album. All music and lyrics written and arranged by John Butler. The following tracklisting and song times are from the official release: The following tracks were including on the limited-edition vinyl version of the record: Strings section on “Caroline”: Horns section on “Gov Did Nothin’”: Before the official track list was released, these tracks were considered for the album, but were lef… More: |

Valco $44 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. HiHigh Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Valco was a prolific manufacturer of guitars, guitar amplifiers, and other musical instruments from the 1940s through 1968. In the 1940s, Valco was formed by three business partners and former owners of the National Dobro Company; Victor Smith, Al Frost, and Louis Dopyera. The company name was a combination of the three partner’s first initials (V. A. L.) plus the common abbreviation for company (Co.). Valco manufactured Spanish acoustic guitars, metal-faced resonator guitars, electric lap steel guitars, and vacuum tube amplifiers under a variety of brand names including Supro, Airline, Oahu, National, and others. They also made amplifiers under contract for several other companies such as Gretsch, Danelectro, Harmony, and Kay. In the 1960s they began producing solid body electric guitars. |
