Picnic Party
Is it really bad etiquette and harmful to career prospects to not go to the company Christmas party or picnic?
Some people tell me that if you refuse to go to these outings, it really hurts your career, because “they” notice that you are absent and mentally dock points against you.
I always hear about how people get drunk and make asses of themselves. Why aren’t THOSE people docked points?
I refuse to PAY money (usually about 12 dollars) plus waste my PERSONAL time, on a SATURDAY, to hang out with COWORKERS. ” F that” is my attitude. BUt maybe i am doomed to never get a raise or promoted???
I was told the same thing. But, I didn’t let it intimidate me. At the end, I found it was my work that eventually got me promoted and noticed. yes, my managers did notice that I was not there at parties and functions all the time.. but come Feb or March.. they really don’t remember that YOU didn’t come to the holiday party. Let your work speak for itself and have a good work ethic while you are on the clock. There are other ways to get noticed in a positive way.
I don’t like wasting my time spending it with people I see everyday.. so I know what you mean. Plus, you have to pay for it? That should have made your decision even easier. For most people, 12 dollars is an hours or more of work. All for what? So, your co-worker can have a margarita and a shrimp cocktail you worked an hour for to pay for…
